How To Beat Free Cell Solitaire

By Eric Stafford

FreeCell Solitaire, unlike other variations of the game, is more often won with skill than luck. If you employ the correct strategies and make the proper plays, you can win a majority of the games. There are very few initial deals that cannot be solved. Winning the game requires you to use your skills to identify the proper moves.

Your chances of winning a particular game depends largely on the strategy you choose to employ. By using the strategies outlined in this article you will dramatically increase your winning percentage.

The most obvious moves are not necessarily the ones to make. You must take time to view the tableau prior to making a move. You must try to see the board a few moves in advance.

Make it a priority to free up all the Aces, especially if they are deeply buried behind the higher cards. Move them to the home cells as early as possible.

The maneuverability afforded by free cells is imperative to your ability to win. You must only place a card in a free cell if it is the only play you have available to you. Otherwise, you will soon find that you are unable to make other moves. Keeping free cells open is vital to your success.

An empty tableau can be utilized to store a large sequence of cards as opposed to a single card. This doubles the number of a sequence that can be moved to that tableau from another. Free tableau piles are a key to your success in the game, and have a higher value than a free cell.

Whenever you can, place a large string that starts with a king in a vacant tableau space.

Placing cards in the home cells too early in the game is often crippling and will not afford you with the ability to play these cards later in the game to move lower suited cards.

Sometimes you will find a deal that you can beat quickly and with little effort. Many times, however, the deals present bigger challenges. As with any skill based game, it takes time to build your skills to identify which moves you should be making and when. Keep practicing and you will find your winning percentage increasing with your affinity for the game.
